By Erica Tempesta For Dailymail. Women who were gaslighted into believing they were competing to win the heart of Prince Harry on the ill-fated reality series ‘I Wanna Marry “Harry”‘ have opened up about being played a fool six years after the show aired. When the series premiered in May , the cringe-worthy premise was simple: Twelve Americans were told they were being courted by Prince Harry while in actuality they were canoodling with redheaded imposter Matthew Hicks, a then year-old who resembled the royal. Memories: Form contestants on the reality series ‘I Wanna Marry “Harry”‘ have opened up about being made to believe they were dating Prince Harry six years after the show premiered. Looking back: Kimberly Birch, Meghan Jones, and Rose Copeland Bricklin left to right revealed how they were ‘brainwashed’ and secluded during filming. The women all said they were told they were joining a show called ‘Dream Date’ and knew little else when they were whisked off to England, where they spent three days isolated in hotel rooms without any access to the outside world, not even books. The Duchess of Cambridge’s sister, Pippa Middleton, would later go on to marry her own Prince Charming, financier James Matthews, at the private estate in At the time of the show’s premiere, Prince Harry was years away from meeting his wife, Meghan Markle. He still had his bad-boy reputation and was — most importantly — single as he had just ended his relationship with English actress Cressida Bonas. Lookalikes: Matthew Hicks was cast at the women’s suitor on the show thanks to his resemblance to the real Prince Harry.

Yes, they were given bathroom breaks, but only for washing off the indignity of being on Chains of Love. Sound ridiculous? It was. But this mechanical parade of cartoonish bachelors among them, a man who did turkey calls was surprisingly watchable when taken as the joke we truly hope it was meant to be. With the same awkwardness of blind dates caught on camera and snarky pop-up video comments running along the bottom of the screen, the show transformed itself from quirky to shameful.

Why Watching Reality Dating Shows Is Hurting Your Love Life
Earlier this year, Twitter user touchmybobby posted a string of meme-style screenshots from a very relatable Chinese dating show. The show, If You Are the One , is actually a beloved ratings beast. The format, loosely based on another Australian dating show called Taken Out , is as follows: One male suitor is introduced to 24 women, who stand in an arc in a live arena, each one behind a light-up podium.
Australian Too Hot To Handle star Harry Jowsey was the naughty little possum of the new Netflix series — costing his co-stars a chunk of prize money for ignoring the sex ban to get off with Francesca Farago. Following a similar concept to Love Island, a group of singles were thrown on an island and told to try and find love with a chance of winning the cash.
Harry and Georgia won, but just a day after the finale aired, the pair revealed they had already split up… so we guess it was called Heartbreak Island, and not Love Island for a reason. On the plus side, it did mean he was able to wreak havoc on Too Hot To Handle — the new dating series that slaps a sex ban on its contestants. No kissing, touching or sexual acts of any kind to yourself or otherwise was the rules, or face a penalty from the prize fund. It took Harry less than a day to steal a snog from Francesca, and it only went downhill from there.

The series takes four couples at a crucial time in their relationship, splits them up in two houses, and surrounds them with sexy single people to date over the course of the show. Either the couples will weather the storm or they’ll give into temptation, but there will inevitably be drama no matter what happens with that many men and women living in fancy villas together. Temptation Island is hardly the first insane-sounding show centered around dating on TV and not even the first version of Temptation Island , but it might just be the most cruel and therefore entertaining.
Join us as we take a walk through some of TV’s other wild TV dating concepts—minus The Bachelor, because in comparison, one person dating 30 other people and slowly eliminating them is practically a normal way to date at this point. We’ve been waiting for a juicy new dating series to get stuck into and now, there’s a new show just launched called Date Drop. It’s all very digital and 21st century, featuring several popular YouTube influencers who speed date through a series of Zoom calls. Throughout the dating process, they go on a series of dates a bit like Love Island , but way more intense than simply pulling one another for a chat and have the opportunity to “drop” a fellow contestant, eliminating them from the dating game completely.

O ne of the biggest problems with TV dating shows is that our relationship with the contestants is infuriatingly brief. On Dinner Date we see them eating one, maybe two, quick meals together. On Sing Date we see them perform a single duet face to face. On Take Me Out , any early embers of attraction are suffocated by the sight of Paddy McGuinness waddling around in a circle like a constipated duck. We never get to see the contestants go on a second date, let alone a fifth.
We never see them traipse around Ikea a year in, or whine about each other’s parents, or spend evening after evening silently sitting on opposite ends of their sofa, listlessly staring at their phones until they’re allowed to go to sleep. It feels as if we’re missing out on the bigger picture. Things don’t quite go that far on ITV2’s dating show Girlfriends , but it takes us further than most. The entire eight-part series tonight is episode five follows three young women as they whittle down a legion of eligible men, Bachelorette-style, until they’re left with their one true love.
It means we get to see the first rush of infatuation, just like all other dating shows, then the indecision and jealousy and awkwardness that inevitably follows.
